Psychotherapy services - Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us if you have additional questions.

In person and virtual sessions are offered for your convenience.

In person meetings occur in Northern New Jersey. Remote sessions can occur in over 40 states of America and are held over a HIPAA-compliant form of Zoom. If needed, we can also meet for phone sessions.

The purpose of the initial evaluation is to understand your symptoms, current concerns, and treatment goals. We also will determine whether we are a good fit. By the second or third session, we will propose an individualized treatment plan which we will routinely assess and if needed revise throughout our work together. Generally, intake evaluations are 75-minutes.

We participate with most Aetna insurance plans.

For clients with other insurances, Dr. Scher is considered an “out-of-network” provider.

You can receive all necessary information (in the form of a Super bill) for you to submit to your insurance for out-of-network benefits, if applicable.

Consistent with the Federal "No Surprises Act," you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" providing you with an estimate cost of therapy. Click here to learn more about the "No Surprises Act."

Dr. Scher's 50-minute therapy sessions are $275. Over the course of treatment, sessions can be adjusted to accommodate for individual needs, including both session frequency and duration.

Dr. Scher's closely supervised psychology doctoral student externs, offer a reduced fee of $135/50-minute session.

As per the New Jersey’s Board of Psychological Examiners protocol, our psychology externs are not allowed to be advertised on our site. Please let us know if you are interested in hearing more about our trained, caring psychology externs.

For individual therapy, Dr. Scher usually has a waitlist. Occasionally, there is immediate availability. Given that our treatments are time-limited, we graduate existing clients often.

Our doctoral student level clinicians usually have immediate availability.

Consistent with the Federal "No Surprises Act," clients not using insurance have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" providing you with an estimate cost of therapy. Click here to learn more about the "No Surprises Act."
