"Dr. Scher is a skilled OCD specialist who has become one of my go-to consultants for my own challenging cases. Her Riding the Wave programs manage to find the sweet spot of being both truly therapeutic and truly fun—kids show up for treatment and find themselves at what feels like summer camp.
These programs are well thought out without feeling rigid or overly clinical. The clients I’ve sent have experienced real, lasting changes and enjoyed themselves in the process. It’s no wonder that parents and children are both excited to come back year after year. I highly recommend them!"
– Bin Goldman, PsyD
"Riding the Wave is a truly impactful experience for everyone involved. As a counselor and co-leader, I witnessed firsthand the profound transformation that just five days of camp can bring to children with OCD or anxiety. Participants leave with increased confidence and practical skills that extend well beyond the camp setting."
- Sami, Doctoral Clinical Psychology Candidate, Philadelphia
"Riding The Wave's summer program was absolutely incredible—far exceeding all of our expectations.
Dr. Scher, Sami, and the entire team are not only educated and knowledgeable, but also deeply compassionate. They knew exactly how to connect with my son and how to challenge him in just the right way. As a result, my son walked away with a much deeper understanding of his OCD, along with greater self-confidence and a stronger belief in himself."
- A June 2025 summer program parent
"Riding the Wave is an incredibly effective program. My client participated and made remarkable progress, thanks to the individualized approach and variety of engaging activities designed by Dr. Scher. I’d highly recommend it to others!"
- Dr. Chana Hoch, Developmental Psychology Practice of Queens
"My son really enjoyed his week at Riding the Wave Camp. There were so many fun and varied confidence building activities all packed into one week. Over the week his confidence grew, his voice got louder and he spoke up in a greater variety of situations, and we could see that he felt good about himself and proud of his accomplishments. Seeing how the staff interacted with him, and what he was capable of, set an example for us so we were able to carry over. I really appreciated the follow up meeting to discuss progress and recommendations. It was very helpful. Now, a month and a half later, we still see the positive effects. He seems more relaxed, happier with himself, and socially confident in more situations. This was a great experience all around."
- A Riding the Wave Camp Parent
"As a psychologist who specializes in treating anxiety, I can say with confidence that Riding the Wave’s Therapeutic Day Camp is simply an unmatched opportunity. Dr. Scher's thoughtful, intentional approach blends evidence-based interventions with the FUN that helps adolescents and teens engage deeply and learn strategies that stick."
- Megan Cox, PsyD
"I was a counselor at camp and had a really meaningful experience supporting the kids, learning from Devora, and being part of the camp community. What makes this camp so special is how it brings together kids of all ages with different challenges, yet creates a strong, supportive group. One activity that really stood out to me was the Camper Café, where campers made omelets, waffles, and smoothies. This activity was fun for the campers and was also a way to practice important skills like taking risks, trying new foods, talking to new people, and sitting with uncertainty. It was a great example of how the camp turns everyday activities into real opportunities for growth."
- Kira, Ferkauf’s School-Clinical PsyD, NYC
"As therapists involved in Riding the Wave Camp's first summer, we saw firsthand the transformative experience that this camp offers children with OCD and anxiety. When you walk into a room, you see kids laughing and having fun-- all while trying new things and learning to overcome their most challenging fears. Perhaps more importantly, they're connecting with other children who truly understand their experiences. The sense of belonging and support they find here is powerful. Riding the Wave helps kids grow, gain courage, and feel less alone, and we recommend the camp and Dr. Devora Scher with our fullest confidence."
- Jeremy & Simi Lichtman, Central Therapy
"Almost from the get-go the children meshed as a warm and excited group interested in getting to know each other and working together. Dr. Scher has gathered a wonderful staff of caring and enthusiastic young professionals who really gave the program their all. It was amazing to see the huge boost in confidence the kids gained, besides just having a great time with all the activities that were packed into a short program. Quite incredible what can be done with the right resources in this format. Well worth repeating, as several campers have done!"
- Camp Activity Facilitator
"Dr. Scher has launched an innovative camp experience, offering a revolutionary approach to motivate and foster change in a fun environment. Dr. Scher uses her passion and compassion to facilitate an alliance with children from diverse backgrounds to address anxiety and OCD related concerns. Campers without specific mental health concerns also thrive and relax in a rewarding, enriching, warm, and fun-filled environment. Many parents have expressed that they wish this haven had been around when they were young! Who can't use a confidence boost?"
- Hindi, Doctoral Clinical Psychology Candidate
"I had the privilege of experiencing firsthand the incredible and truly unique camp that Devora has created. I was deeply impressed by how the leadership team and staff paid close attention to detail and how every aspect of camp- activities, interactions, connections, and even casual conversations- were carried out mindfully, intentionally, and according to the principles of evidence based therapy approaches. Devora and Sami skillfully guided an amazing group of dedicated counselors, helping them maximize the clinical benefits for each child. Their consistent and thoughtful supervision ensured that every camper was making meaningful progress towards their therapeutic goals — and having a good time while doing it! It was inspiring to witness each child's growth. The camp certainly fully lives up to its tagline: Work hard and play harder!"
- Camp Staff Member, NYC
"Riding the Wave offers an unparalleled experience for kids with anxiety and OCD. I personally got to experience the amazing spirit of this camp when I participated as a guest. I was amazed that only a few days earlier this group of kids- who struggle with anxiety- did not know each other. In a matter of a few days (and many brave opportunities!) the group had become so cohesive. As a psychologist, I recognize how important it is for kids to learn evidence based principles in a fun environment. Dr. Scher has created an environment that fosters treatment gains— and so much more."
